The IRIS retinal hyperspectral imaging system from Photon etc. (Montreal, QC, Canada) delivers noninvasive localization of biomolecules in the eye fundus to develop treatments for retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Based on a mydriatic retinal camera and the company's tunable laser source, the system allows high-definition retinal imaging at any wavelength from 420 to 1000 nm. An automatic spectral calibration setup enables spectral reproducibility, while an integrated photodiode provides temporal normalization of light intensity. Features include a sensitive CCD camera for high-definition imaging, an XYZ manual positioning system, illumination based on the company's patented Bragg grating filtering technology, and <1 nm wavelength selection from a supercontinuum source.

Particularly developed for ophthalmological studies, an automatic spectral calibration setup guarantees spectral reproducibility in time, while an integrated photodiode provides the temporal normalization of the light intensity. The instrument includes a sensitive CCD camera for high definition imaging and comes with a chin rest and XYZ manual positioning system. The supplied illumination is based on Photon etc’s patented Bragg grating filtering technology and allows for a rapid and accurate (< 1 nm) wavelength selection from a supercontinuum source.
IRISTM allows the non-invasive localization of structures and biomolecules in the retina using their specific spectral signatures. In collaboration with the Glaucoma and Retina Research Group at the University of Waterloo/University Health Network, Photon etc. is developing a method to study retinal blood vessels and their blood oxygen saturation. With this innovative system, it is possible to localize any structure or biomolecule with spectral signatures and gather more information about eye disorders.
