Bioptigen begins shipping SD-OCT system capable of 1 µm axial resolution images

Bioptigen (Research Triangle Park, NC) has begun shipping the company's Envisu S4100 XHR spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) research system, which can produce volumetric images with 1 µm axial resolution. The system is the only OCT system in the world capable of acquiring images with 1.5 × 1.5 × 1 µm voxel size, and it delivers resolution in full volumes up to 1000 × 1000 × 1000 pixels to yield the earliest signatures of pathology.

The system combines with an NKT Photonics (Birkenrød, Denmark) SuperK white light source to capture and process 300 nm of spectrum in real time without the need for averaging. Joe Vance, VP of sales at Bioptigen, explains that the system "enables single-pixel resolution of the fine structure in retina and anterior layers of the eye," and "offers researchers true cellular-level in vivo optical histology of mouse models of human disease."
