Caliper Life Sciences' (Hopkinton, MA; NASDAQ: CALP) IVIS Kinetic preclinical in vivo imaging system uses new developments in ultra-high sensitivity scientific cameras to add video capability for non-invasive viewing of biological events at the molecular level as they occur in real-time. This enables researchers to visualize, track, quantify and understand biological processes in real time, to drive analysis of gene expression, cellular pathways and drug response. And, it will further advance cardiovascular, neurology, immunology and oncology distribution studies conducted using in vivo imaging, the company says.

The IVIS Kinetic system features an isolation chamber that allows users to monitor conscious mice freely walking and performing tasks. Thus, researchers can witness dynamic processes and reactions, enhancing the understanding of a drug candidate's potential performance in clinical studies. Specifically, by allowing researchers to view the real-time distribution of drugs and an animal model's responses to a compound, a more thorough understanding of a drug's potential can be assessed.

The IVIS Kinetic can perform both quantitative luminescence and fluorescence as a standard high signal to noise imager and as a high speed imager. The system includes a highly sensitive EMCCD camera for signal enhancement and the ability to reduce exposure times enabling fast kinetics. IVIS systems are supported by a range of practical accessories developed through experience in research laboratories worldwide. The IVIS Kinetic offers a light-tight injection port which supporting a syringe injector system enabling real time compound and/or substrate administration. A removable pull-out tray is included to facilitate pre-imaging animal procedures.
