Infectious Disease Control: Light fixture aims for safe, effective infection control in hospitals

"Continuous environmental disinfection" technology developed and patented by the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) has been licensed for manufacture exclusively to Kenall Manufacturing (Kenosha, WI) for the North American healthcare market.

Indigo-Clean (www.indigo-clean.com) produces high-intensity narrow spectrum (HINS) light at an output of 405 nm. The light is absorbed by molecules in bacteria known to cause hospital-acquired infections (HAIs)—including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), C.difficile, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE)—which produce a chemical reaction that kills the pathogens in air and on all surfaces. The light fixture complies with all internationally recognized standards for patient safety.
