High-speed high-resolution camera system by Cooke Corp.

The Cooke Corporation's (Romulus, MI) pco.dimax digital high-speed CMOS camera system with 12 bit dynamic range promises the fastest image throughput of any 4 megapixel camera at 4471 megapixels/s. The pco.dimax delivers 1100 frames per second (fps) at 2016 x 2016 pixels, and 4000 fps at 1032 x 1024. User-selectable resolutions and speeds allow up to 56,300 fps at a truly usable 144 x 128 resolution. Additional selectable resolutions match high-definition broadcast standards.

The pco.dimax system comprises advanced CMOS and electronics technology. Its 31.4mm diagonal CMOS image sensor features 11µm pixels, quantum efficiency in excess of 44%, and is available in both color and monochrome formats.

Building on Cooke's earlier camera series, the pco.dimax features up to 32GB of internal imaging memory (camRAM), and multiple trigger options to cover all applications including those mandated by the automotive industry. Image data is transferred via GigE, USB2.0 or Camera Link interfaces; for preview purposes the system includes a DVI interface. The pco.dimax has a smart battery control allowing full operation for one hour or a data backup for six hours. The global snapshot shutter provides exposure time from 2µs to 1s. Double shutter operation makes it suitable for high-resolution particle image velocimetry (PIV) applications. Accurate inter-camera synchronization allows for precise synchronization in applications with more than one high-speed camera such as dynamic 3D analysis. An IRIG-B input allows for accurate time stamping of images.

The pco.dimax camera system addresses demanding high-speed applications, for instance in the biomedical and life science, areas including imaging voltage sensitive dyes, micro fluidics research/nanotechnology, high speed fluorescence imaging of cell dynamics and intrinsic optical imaging of neuronal activity.
