Figuring out fluorescence imaging

WASHINGTON, DC, USA--During the 2008 Society for NeuroScience Annual Meeting, Carl Zeiss MicroImaging launched an educational website, developed in collaboration with renowned imaging expert and online teaching pioneer Mike Davidson of Florida State University. The site intends to be a "comprehensive and independent resource to learn about the latest techniques in fluorescence imaging." It includes a review of light sources for fluorescence imaging and explains techniques such as the one used to create this image: a 3D reconstruction of optical sections of mouse skin generated by structured illumination.

The learning site, called Zeiss Online Campus covers various methods and technologies with review articles and interactive flash animations that combine theory, technology and application of fluorescence techniques. Website content is developed by Mike Davidson; other key scientists who are leaders in fluorescence imaging have agreed to contribute. The site also houses application image galleries; site visitors are invited to share their own applications in an Application Library.
